We are situated about 4 km from the small town of Vila Nova de Poiares in the countryside overlooking a small mountain with lots of agriculture fields in front of the house.
Coimbra is about 25 km away, where you can explore the old capital of Portugal. It has the oldest university in Europe and is steeped in history.
The Astoria hotel has been kept in its Art Deco glory and is worth a walk inside.
Not far away from Coimbra is the roman ruin town of Conimbriga, an entire town available to walk around with amazing mosaics.
Close to the house, about 4 km away, is a special row of 18 old windmills (some restored) which makes an amazing photo opportunity with spectacular views, as it is so high up.
Also nearby (being surrounded by lots of rivers) are many river beaches, ideal to cool off in the fresh river water or just sunbath on the pebbled beaches.
The area is full of old walking tracks with lots of "Bombeiros" roads (firetruck roads), which meander through the forests.
About 16 km away is the town of Lousã with a lovely old castle and beautiful countryside.
Further afield (about 1h30min away) is the national park of the "Serra da Estrela" with its spectacular views and, in winter, a ski resort. In summer the ski resorts lifts are used to take you down to the many natural lakes that are formed there.
